Theodore R. Hinzy, 69, a longtime Dutchess County resident, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at his home in Hyde Park with family by his side.

Born on December 21, 1947 in Rockwood, PA, he was the son of the late Homer Wilbur and Bessie Helen (Pyle) Hinzy. He was a graduate of Rockwood High School.

Ted worked as a mechanical engineer at IBM in Fishkill for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Hinzy also worked as an election officer in Hyde Park. As a young man, he was an EMT and a volunteer fireman.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. during Vietnam.

Ted was quiet, and had a strong, patient, and calming presence and a very loving heart. He had many interests, he was a horseshoe champion and played in a league in Newburgh. He had a passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his daughter, Crystal M. Glenn, and her husband, Jason, of Springfield, VA; daughter, Amanda Leigh Hinzy, of Hyde Park; long-time companion, Mary L. Bennerman, of Hyde Park, and her son, Randy Bennerman, Jr., of North Carolina; grandchildren: Megan Elizabeth Glenn, Serena Leigh Henry, Abigail Lanier Hinzy, and Samuel Wyatt Glenn; and his siblings and their families: Homer Wilbur Hinzy, Jr., David Donald Hinzy, James Edward Hinzy, Dwella Jane Saler, Mary Edna Phillippi, Harry Telford Hinzy, Sr., Larry Dean Hinzy, Ricky Lee Hinzy, Joy Darlene Lytle, Sharon Kay (Katie) Dunn, Jacqueline Sue Magruder, and John Mark Hinzy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Carl Douglas Hinzy, who passed away in June 1983.

Calling hours will be from 11am-1pm on Saturday, October 7th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Rev. Arlene Dawber will be officiating.

Burial, with military honors, will then follow at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park.
