Hyde Park – Robert K. Peeling, 85, a longtime Hyde Park resident (formerly of New Jersey), died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at The Baptist Home in Rhinebeck.

Born in Albany on August 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Charlotte S. (Oakley) Peeling.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bob was a graduate of Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and received his Master's Degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University. He was a Social Studies Teacher at Haviland Junior High School in the Hyde Park Central School District for many years until his retirement in 1991. Generations of students still remember Bob for his New York State history lessons, his Wheel of Fortune game, and the annual visit of "Paleolithic Peeling" to the classroom.

He was an avid New York Giants fan, and he loved to travel, especially with his wife, Eilene.

A very active member of the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, Bob was a member of the church's Men's Club and former chairman of the Memorials Committee. He was also a volunteer for Hyde Park Meals-on-Wheels.

On November 22, 1969, he married the former Eilene Littig in Irvington, NJ. Mrs. Peeling survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Peeling and his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Sophia and Alex, of Marlborough, CT, and Brett Peeling and his wife, Karin, and their two children, Ben and Nate, of Alexandria, VA; two sisters, Elizabeth Lyon of Canandaigua, NY, and Mary Ellen Markant and husband, David, of Rochester, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm, Monday, April 17th at the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, 1 Church Street, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Tuesday, April 18th at the church with Rev. Kregg Gabor officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
