POUGHKEEPSIE - James E. Williams, 88, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at home.
He was a hard working man who held several jobs. Most recently, he was a custodian at the Dutchess County Dept. of Health Building in Poughkeepsie for 17 years until his retirement.
Born in Beacon on August 4, 1918, he was the son of the late John and Hazel Robertson Williams.
He married the former Grace Frazer. Mrs. Williams predeceased him on November 22, 1999.
He is survived by five daughters, Arlene Louis and husband, Rodney, of Poughkeepsie, Barbara Davis of Hyde Park, Shirley Lasher of Hyde Park, Joanne Miller and husband, Dale, of Poughkeepsie, and Judy Veach of Poughkeepsie; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Violet Williams of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two daughters, Betty Green and Sandra Swartz; a son, David Swartz; and four brothers, Amos, John, George, and Gordon Williams.
Calling hours will be 4 - 7 Pm, Sunday, December 3rd at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Monday, December 4th at the funeral home with Rev. Donald Hoger officiating.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
