Obituary for Viola P. Schoch

Viola P. Schoch, 93, a long-time resident of the Town of Clinton in Dutchess County, New York, died on November 20, 2017 at the Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Viola Cookingham was born in 1924 at the family farm in the Town of Clinton, attended the one room school in Pleasant Plains, graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, received a Bachelor of Arts from Keuka College, and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Columbia University. She married Emil Schoch, an engineer with General Electric, in 1949. Her life is described in a book she coauthored in 2010, The Cookinghams of Primrose Hill Farm.
During her life she lived in New York, Connecticut, Idaho, and Ohio. Viola volunteered in schools, churches, and community activities throughout her life. She travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Her efforts reunited the family with her husband’s German relatives. She was active in operating the Primrose Hill Farm throughout her life. She kept in touch with many life-long friends from every stage of her life.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Donald and Katy, Robert and Linda, and Richard, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 4th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1872 Salt Point Turnpike, Salt Point, with Rev. Theodore Miller officiating. Burial of her ashes will follow in the family plot in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Town of Clinton.
