Obituary for Thomas V. Dolan, Jr.

Thomas V. Dolan Jr., a long time Hyde Park resident, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He was 87. He was born in 1930 to the late Thomas V. Dolan Sr. and Marie (Germiller) Dolan. Tom grew up in Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park and graduated from F. D. Roosevelt High School in 1948. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. After completing his service to our country, he was honorably discharged in 1956 and embarked on a career in the tech industry. He was a long-time engineer and computer programmer at IBM and retired in 1990. During his retirement years, Tom was active in the local chapter of the AARP, Hyde Park American Legion Post #1303, the Hyde Park Senior Activity Club, and the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce. He also contributed to many charitable causes. He loved talking about his grandchildren and his days in the Air Force. He had a quick wit and always loved a good joke. Tom is survived by son Robert, and his wife, Jean, of Plymouth, MA; daughter, Katherine, of Hyde Park; son, Christopher, of Hyde Park; daughter, Erika Dreier, of Perkasie PA; grandchildren: Elyse, Dean, Ashleigh, and Hannah; brother, Richard, and his wife, Betty; and several nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Robert. Calling hours will be 4pm - 8pm on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. The Hyde Park American Legion Post #1303 will conduct services during the calling hours. Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hudson Valley Hospice (374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601; www.hvhospice.org) and/or the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System - Castle Point Campus (41 Castle Point Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590; www.hudsonvalley.va.gov).
