Obituary for Roger B. Kirchner, Jr.

Roger B. Kirchner, Jr., 57, passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 after a brief illness.

Roger was born in Poughkeepsie to the late Roger and Barbara (Hunter) Kirchner on April 9, 1960. He was of the Episcopal faith.

In 1979, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly serviced as Security Police for 8 years.

He was employed by the Culinary Institute of America for 30 years as a Campus Safety Officer.

On July 22, 1980, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Nardone, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mrs. Kirchner survives at home.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a quiet sense of humor. His loving and caring spirit was a trait that made everyone love being around him. He enjoyed fishing, biking of the Rail Trail, playing his drums, and especially loved working on projects in his workshop.

In addition to his wife, Liz, Roger is survived by son, Daniel, his wife, Alexandria, and granddaughter, Ana Rose, all of Macomb, Michigan; sister, Helen Banks, of Kingston; uncle, William Kirchner, of Pleasant Valley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the Nardone family and also his “Bonus” Capuano family.

Calling hours will be from 5-8pm on Sunday, January 28th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park.

A graveside funeral service, with military honors, will be at 11:30am on Monday, January 29th at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Route 44, Pleasant Valley. Pastor Brian Bovee will be officiating.
