Obituary for Raymond Walter Ostrom, Sr.

Hyde Park – Raymond Walter Ostrom Sr. affectionately known as “Mud Slinger”, 82, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully on February 1, 2018 with his family by his side.
Born September 21, 1935 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late John Fogg Ostrom and Anna Edith Mabus Ostrom.
He proudly served in the Unites States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mud Slinger owned and operated Ostrom’s Masonry until his retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Dutchess County Sportsmen’s Association and the Crum Elbow Sportsmen’s Association in Hyde Park.
On August 19, 1956 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, he married the former Patricia Ann Lattin. Mrs. Ostrom survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Raymond Walter Ostrom Jr. and wife, Joanne; son, Kenneth Michael Ostrom and wife, Ann Marie; and daughter, Lori Ann Yerks and husband, Frederick; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm, Monday, February 5th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Tuesday, February 6th at the Funeral Home.
Burial with USMC honors will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
