Obituary for Harry E. McAndrew

Brooksville, Florida – Harry McAndrew, 91, formerly of the Hudson Valley, died on February 8, 2018 in Brooksville.

Harry proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. McAndrew moved to the Hudson Valley from Wisconsin and worked at the Luckey Platt Department Store in Poughkeepsie in the appliance department before going out on his own and opening an appliance store on Main Street in Poughkeepsie. After the appliance store, he owned and operated a hobby shop in Red Oaks Mills until his retirement.

He loved to travel and before moving to Florida full time in 2011, he and his wife would spend winters in Florida and Summers in New York.

Harry was a former member of the Arlington Rotary Club in Poughkeepsie. He also enjoyed bowling and golf, and was active in leagues, both here and in Florida.

On February 23, 1952 in Seekonk, Massachusetts, he married Alice Mae Phillips. Mrs. McAndrew predeceased him on November 19, 2011.

Survivors include his two children, Lee McAndrew and Barbara Lasky; and several in-laws and their families.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A period of memorial visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 am, Monday, June 4th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will follow at 10:30 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Kregg Gabor officiating.

Burial of his ashes with military honors will be in the family plot at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
