Obituary for Frederick W. Delarm

Frederick W. Delarm, 82, a longtime Poughkeepsie resident (formerly of Malone, NY) passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born January 24, 1935 in Malone, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Marjorie Nichols Delarm. Fred was a graduate of the Franklin Academy, Malone.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force in the 1950’s.
Mr. Delarm enjoyed fishing, golfing, go-karting, and watching car races with his brother, Bob, at Lebanon Valley Speedway. An active man, he also enjoyed running and bicycling.
Fred was a member of the Crum Elbow Sportsmen’s Association in Hyde Park and the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club.
He began his career as an auto mechanic at the former Mid-Hudson Chevrolet, and then went on to work at the former Western Publishing in Poughkeepsie, where he became Head Mechanic of their truck fleet. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Delarm’s Auto Service before finishing his career as a mechanic with the NYS Dept. of Transportation.
Mr. Delarm was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Hyde Park and St. Mary’s Church in Brushton.
On October 6, 1956 at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton, he married the former Ann LaRock. His wife of 61 years survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Deborah A. Herrmann, and husband, Kevin, of Stanfordville, Brenda Delarm of Winchester, Tenn., and Mark Delarm of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Lambert, Jennifer Harrington, Harry Harrington IV, Jayson Harrington, Shannon Mackenzie, Devon, James, Mark, Summer, Brooklyn, and Chloe Eng, and Brittany Delarm; great-grandchildren, Drew, Savannah, and Silas Lambert, Michael, Donnalynn, and Matthew Brown, Elyas Faucher, Ava Harrington, and John Mendelson.
He is also survived by his sister, Andrea Dwyer and husband, Patrick, of Tucson AZ; two brothers, Philip Delarm and wife, Ceil, of Malone, and Robert Delarm and wife, Phyllis, of Hyde Park; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, James F. Delarm in 1976; and his mother-in-law, Edna LaRock.
Local calling hours will be Tuesday, November 7th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Upstate funeral services and burial will be under the direction of Flint Funeral Home, Moira, NY later in the week. (www.flintfuneralhomeny.com)
