Obituary for Edgar Alan Saul

Edgar Alan Saul, 87, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, died on Friday, January 5, 2018 at home with his family by his side.

Born on March 7, 1930 in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Herman and Eudora (Winans) Saul.

Mr. Saul worked as a computer educator at IBM for over 30 years until his retirement in 1991.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Edgar was a member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275.

He was an avid bowler and served as a past president for both the New York State Bowling Association and the Dutchess/Putman Counties Bowling Association. He was elected into the Dutchess County Bowling Hall of Fame and won many bowling awards. He was especially proud of his 800 series ring.

Edgar had a passion for golf, and served as an area captain at the Barclay’s Invitational FedEx Cup PGA Tournament for 15 years.

He also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins.

On June 27, 1998 in Wappingers Falls, he married the former Margaret J. Chesky. Mrs. Saul currently survives at home in Poughkeepsie.

In addition to his wife, Edgar is survived by his daughter, Susan Andrews, and her husband, Dwight, of Canada; son, Alan Saul, and his wife, Bettiann, of South Carolina; son, Howard Saul, and longtime companion, Valerie Carter, of San Jose, California; stepson, Michael Chesky of Poughkeepsie; stepson, Dennis Chesky, and his wife, Pattilynn, of Minnesota; stepson, Ronald Chesky, and his wife, Maryann, of Albany; many grandchildren and great grandchildren (whom he adored); sister, Miriam Ralston, of Massena, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his feline sidekick, Lucy.

Edgar was predeceased by his parents and by two sisters, Elanor Heed and Lelia Bagis.

Calling hours will be on Monday, January 8th and Tuesday, January 9th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. The Elks will conduct services at 7 Pm Monday during the calling hours.

A funeral service will be at 10am on Wednesday, January 10th at the Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Lloyd in Highland.

Edgar’s family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
