Obituary for Daniel Lehan, Jr.

Daniel Lehan, Jr., 89, a lifelong Hyde Park resident, died at home on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 with his family by his side.

Born on June 7, 1928 in Hyde Park, he was the son of the late Daniel Lehan, Sr. and Helen (Simpson) Lehan.

Mr. Lehan proudly served in the United States Army National Guard during World War II.

He worked for the railroad for 42 years beginning with NY Central and retiring from Metro-North in 1992.

A shad fisherman for many years, Dan spent a lot of time on the shores of the Hudson River.

On July 9, 1948 in Hyde Park, he married the former Emma Myers. Mrs. Lehan currently survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dan Lehan III, of Nebraska; daughter, Gloria Gilmore, and husband, Jack, of Pleasant Valley; son, Patrick Lehan, and wife, Donna, of Maine; son, Donald Lehan, of Saratoga Springs; son, David Lehan, and wife, Jill, of Wisconsin; daughter, June Ann Walsh, and husband, John, of Red Hook; 12 grandchildren: Tyler Lehan, Donald and Richard Pottenburgh, Patrick Lehan III, Lynn Eastman, Kristen Richardson, Katie and Ashley Lehan, Jessica Raymo, and Tory, Shane, and Haylie Walsh; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6-8pm on Monday, January 22nd at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park.

A funeral service will be at 10am on Tuesday, January 23rd at the funeral home. Fr. Chuck Kramer will be officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
